Storm front: 'Canes try to extend win streak vs. Coyotes

Hockey Betting Lines

11/21/2008 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Carolina Hurricanes will try to earn their first three- game winning streak of the season when they welcome the sliding Phoenix Coyotes for tonight's meeting at RBC Center.

The Hurricanes are in the midst of a four-game homestand and have earned victories in the first two tests of that residency. After posting a shootout victory over Tampa Bay on Sunday, Carolina followed with another close win against Montreal on Tuesday.

Ray Whitney's power-play goal in the third period proved to be the game-winner on Tuesday as the Hurricanes notched the 2-1 decision over the Canadiens. Cam Ward also turned in a strong outing with 28 saves as Carolina improved to 5-4-0 as the host team this season.

Sergei Samsonov also scored for Carolina, which has won back-to-back tilts following a three-game skid. The 'Canes last three-game winning streak came from March 16-20 of last season.

The Hurricanes will complete their homestand Sunday against Nashville before hitting the road for a test at Florida on the following night.

The Coyotes, meanwhile, have lost three straight games on the heels of a three-game winning streak. Phoenix will now try to end the slide in this evening's opening test of a four-game road trip despite the fact that the club is just 3-5-0 as the visiting team this season.

Chicago posted the most recent victory over the Coyotes, beating Phoenix in a shootout Tuesday night in Arizona. Jonathan Toews and Patrick Sharp both lit the lamp in the shootout, as the Blackhawks recorded the 3-2 decision at Jobing.com Arena.

Toews was able to beat Ilya Bryzgalov through the legs in the shootout, and Sharp followed with a shot that beat the goaltender stick side. Nikolai Khabibulin saved both Phoenix attempts, including a great glove save off Peter Mueller to secure the win.

Zbynek Michalek and Shane Doan both scored for the Coyotes, who rallied from a 2-0 deficit but still couldn't pick up a game in the win column. Bryzgalov allowed two goals on 40 shots in the loss.

Doan, who has spent his entire 13-year career with the Phoenix/Winnipeg franchise, played in his 900th game.

Phoenix has won four straight meetings with the Hurricanes, including two in a row in Raleigh. Carolina's last win over the Coyotes came at home on November 12, 2002.

As cup crazy fans prepare to place their bets, one online sportsbook ,MySportsbook.com, is offering hockey betting lines on the 2007/2007 Stanley Cup , who will bring it home this upcoming season.

Despite a poor showing in last season's playoffs and the loss of Steve Yzerman to retirement, the Detroit Red Wings are early favourites at this online sportsbook with wagering odds of 6-1. The Wings will look to offensive powerhouse Pavel Datsyuk and newly appointed captain Nicklas Lidstrom to lead one of the league's most prominent franchises.

Always a threat are the Ottawa Senators, with newly acquired goaltender Martin Gerber from the Stanley Cup champion ,Carolina Hurricanes. The Sens are second best in the rankings at a 7-1 bet, and odds makers at this sportsbook are optimistic that the Ottawa squad will fare better than last season's Eastern Conference semi-final upset to the Buffalo Sabres.

Also worth noting are the defending Stanley Cup champs Carolina Hurricanes, a 10-1 bet to repeat. Behind the Canes are the New Jersey Devils, Calgary Flames, Buffalo Sabres, Philadelphia Flyers, and Anaheim Mighty Ducks all sit at 12-1.
